Ten years, 840 megawatts, 45,300 students—the Lillis Business Complex has stacked up impressive numbers for the UO Lundquist College of Business since it opened on October 24, 2003. From helping raising the national profile of the college—U.S. News & World Report has now ranked us in the top fifty for undergraduate business programs in the United States for the past five years—to contributing to our 67 percent increase in student population, the Lillis Complex stands as a testament to the transformative power that a capital project and a bold vision can have on a university.
But more than numbers, the building is a reflection of our commitment to and expectations of students. We are invested in their future and dedicated to delivering an education that prepares them to achieve success in business and in life.
"The Lillis Business Complex shapes how people perceive their future—that they can be successful and have a chance to practice it here," explained Dean Kees de Kluyver.
And those characteristics are palpable to students who walk through our front doors—as reflected in the video above.
"The building represents the future of business. The Lillis Business Complex represents me," said Kyhan Turner, a business administration major with a concentration in marketing.
As the building prepares to celebrate its tenth anniversary later this month, we extend a special and sincere thank you to Chuck and Gwen Lillis and all those that gave so generously to create a business education facility that continues to earn accolades and set the standard for sustainable buildings across campus, throughout Oregon, and around the country.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, 840 megawatts is approximately the amount of power generated by the five solar arrays on the building since 2003. That amounts to a savings of 68,000 gallons of gas; 4,800 60-watt light bulbs; and 603 tons of carbon dioxide.
